Shaun the Moustache Master

It’s the beginning of the filming of Endeavour Series 6 which will be set in 1969.

There is a very unusual look that Shaun has, he has a moustache. What is this face fungus for? Is it in a new storyline? The Beatles had moustaches in 1969. Could it be a Beatlesque storyline?
